Gut Microbiome Profiling

PROFILING OF INTESTINAL MICROBIOME IN RODENT STUDIES

Biotest Facility now offers the option to integrate bacterial and archaeal community profiling in any preclinical animal study. The service is based on 16S amplicon sequencing using Illumina MiSeq apperature and offered in close collaboration with DNASense ApS.

ADDED VALUE IN EARLY INVESTIGATIONS

Unwanted effect on the intestinal microbiome may affect the suitability of a new drug candidate for further development. In many cases tests for effect on microbiome may be performed already in the early phases of preclinical studies during the characterisation of acute toxicology or pharmacokinetics. A study with an integrated microbial community profiling will be delivered with a comprehensive report on the results on the microbial sequencing, including illustrations of the data and conclusions.

BIOBANKING OPTION

When a full microbiome profiling is not an option from the outset of an investigation Biotest Facility offers an economical and practical alternative. The service comprises collection, processing, and ULT freezer (-80 °C) storage of all relevant samples from the study. Microbial analysis can be conducted directly from the frozen samples at a later date. The fee for sample collection will depend on the specific study design and ULT freezer biobanking follows standard Biotest Facility rates.

DNASense uses the MiSeq system from Illumina. The system enable up to 15 Gb of output with 25 million sequencing reads and 2 × 300 bp read lengths.
